Fix your technique first

Drive your elbows up
High elbows are the whole game. Picture pointing your elbows at the far wall and keeping your chest proud. That raises the deltoid shelf and pins the bar in front of — not on top of — your collarbone. Drop the elbows and the bar rolls straight back onto the bone.
Place the bar on the shelf, off the throat
The bar should rest on the front of your shoulders about a fingerwidth from your throat. It should feel like it is choking you slightly when your elbows are high — that is the correct, supported position, not a collarbone position.
